Sebaoth, My Protector
There was a woman named Hannah who was very sad. She wanted to have a baby so much, but her arms were empty. One day, she went to God’s special house and cried out to Him. She was so upset that she couldn’t even find the words to speak out loud, she just prayed in her heart.
Even though she felt weak, she knew how strong God was. She called Him by a very special name: The LORD of Hosts (YHWH Sebaoth).
Then the Bible says:
“And she made a vow, saying, ‘LORD of Hosts (YHWH Sebaoth), if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life..”
1 Samuel 1:11
It’s incredibly moving that the first person to call God by His "Warrior/Military" name wasn't a general on a battlefield it was a mother in pain. Sebaoth refers to a mass of beings (angels, stars, or even the armies of Israel). It means that God has all the resources of heaven and earth at His command. Hannah recognized that the God who rules the vast "armies" of the universe is the same God who cares about the quiet cries of a single heart.
In this lesson, your "littles" will learn:
Big God, Little Me: That the Creator of the stars and the Leader of the angels listens when we whisper our prayers.
The Ultimate Resource: When we feel like we "don't have enough" (enough strength, enough toys, enough bravery), God has more than enough to help us.
Team Heaven: That we are never fighting our "battles" alone. God is the Captain of the greatest team ever assembled!
Lets break it down!
Engage:
Have your little one try to move something way too heavy (like a couch or a big tree outside).
Ask: "Does it ever feel like your problems are just too big for you to move alone?"
Hannah felt just like that. She was sad and her "problem" felt like a giant mountain. But she remembered a secret: she wasn't fighting alone. She called God YHWH Sebaoth, the Captain of the Angel Armies.
Engaging Questions:
"If you had a whole army of invisible angels standing in this room right now, how brave would you feel?"
"God leads billions of stars every night. Do you think He's strong enough to lead us through a hard day?"
Apply:
The "Whisper" Power (Big God, Little Me): God is the Captain of the stars, but He hits "pause" to hear your tiniest whisper.
The Moment: When you feel sad or nervous at school, just whisper, "Help me, YHWH Sebaoth." The Commander of Heaven is listening!
The "Extra Supply" Power (More Than Enough):When you run out of "brave" or "kind," God has a giant warehouse full of more.
The Moment: When it’s hard to share or be patient, say: "Captain, I’m out of nice! Please send me some from Your big supply."
The "Team Heaven" Power (Never Alone): You might be the only kid in your room, but you are never the only one in the fight.
The Moment: When you're scared of the dark, remember your Invisible Army. Stand tall and give the Sebaoth Salute to remind yourself: "I’ve got the Greatest Team backing me up!"
Repeat & Reinforce:
The Sebaoth Salute:
Practice standing tall at "attention" with a sharp salute (hand to forehead). This is your brave reminder that you aren't a lone soldier, you are a kid with the Captain of Heaven’s Armies backing you up!
The "Angel Army" Patrol:
Use a flashlight in a dark room to "scout" for God’s invisible helpers. Remind them: "Just because we can't see the Army doesn't mean the Captain isn't here!"
The "Starry Host" Scopes:
Decorate two paper rolls with stars. Use your "Sebaoth Scopes" to look at the sky and remember: the God who leads every single star is the same God who leads you.
The "Shield of Sebaoth":
Cut a shield shape out of cardboard or a paper plate. Have your little one draw a large "S" (for Sebaoth) or stars on it. When we feel "firey darts" of worry or fear, we hold up our shield. It reminds us that The Lord of Hosts is our ultimate protector and He never lets His team down!
Closing Thought:
Just like a king has a whole army to help him, God has all the angels in heaven and all the stars in the sky ready to do His work. When we feel small (like Hannah) or face a big problem (like David and Goliath), we can remember that the YHWH Sebaoth is on our side. He is the strongest leader in the whole universe

Sebaoth Activity Sheet
Page 1 serves as a personal mission briefing where children trace the name of their Captain, connect their hearts to His heavenly crown, and sign their own names to officially join "Team Heaven." It concludes with a rhythmic prayer that reminds them that the Commander of the stars is always ready to listen to their quietest whispers.
Page 2 expands their "training" by recapping the nine compound names of God through a colorful counting and coloring exercise. By filling in the matching squares for names like Shalom, Jireh, and Sebaoth, children build both math skills and a foundational understanding of God’s character.
This set is the perfect tool for turning a big biblical concept into a daily source of bravery, teaching kids that with the Lord of Hosts on their side, they never have to face a "giant" problem alone.
